Loft Hatch Fitting and User Guide

Installation Advice

  • This hatch is intended to fit between trusses which are spaced 600mm apart (centre to centre) and can accommodate either 38mm or 47mm truss widths.
  • If the roof design does not provide this joist opening width, a suitable opening must be formed Trimmers must be installed across the ends of the frame. These must be spaced to give a clear opening length of 726mm
  • Fit the loft access door after the ceiling has been plaster boarded and skimmed
  • The frame must be a good fit into the trimmed opening. Never try to force it into an opening that is too small. If the opening is too large use packers to ensure a good fit

Installation Instructions for Loft Hatches

  1. First you must prepare a suitable opening in the ceiling to the dimensions below. Make sure there is a minimum of 100mm between the edge of the hatch and any wall/obstruction.

  2. loft hatch opening

  3. The drop down door should be removed from the frame before you install it. To unlock it, use the recess to slide the door into the open position and then it can be hinged open as shown below.

  4. open hatch door

  5. You must remove the door from the frame to fit it. Fold the door open to 90. Push the hinge lugs downward, then slide the lugs across and upwards, lifting them through the gaps found in the frame.

  6. Push the frame up into the prepared opening tightly against the ceiling to create an airtight seal. Make sure the frame is sitting squarely in the opening and then fix the frame in place using the 12 screws supplied. Do not over tighten these screws as this can distort the frame and make the door stiff and difficult to operate.

  7. screwing the frame into the ceiling

  8. To replace the door, ensure the door cover is in the open position so that the hinges are exposed and then push them up and inwards into the frame to hook them back into position.

  9. reinstalling the door

  10. To close the door, place a finger/pole within the recess and push the door back into a horizontal position. Then slide back into the closed position to lock the door, until the cover lines up with the frame.

  11. close the door

Operating Instructions for Loft Hatches
To unlock the door, use the recess shown below to slide the cover into the open position. This can be unlocked by either hand or by using a pole (not included). Once the cover is slid into the open position, the door will unlock and can then be swung down. WARNING - do not allow the door to drop down unsupported.

To close the door, place a finger or pole within the recess and push the door back into a horizontal position. Then slide the catch back into the closed position away from the hatch, until the cover lines up with the frame.
