Extension ladders are the ones whose length can be extended in order to reach higher areas. Usually, the height of these ladders can be increased up to double of their height. In this type of ladder, two ladders of the same size are combined together and made to slide up in order to increase the height.
As some portions of the ladder overlap over each other, the actual height is not double but a foot or two less than double. Thus, whatever height you wish to reach, the actual length of an extension ladder must be a few feet more than the height you want to reach. Ladders are also available in a combination of 3 ladders.
Extension ladders are mainly used for outside jobs where you need to reach extended heights. Extension ladders of small size are easy to slide out with your hands. Larger ladders usually come along with rope loops which help to extend them to their maximum height. Once these ladders are opened, it is very important to secure them properly.
Most extension ladders are manufactured using steel, aluminium and fibreglass. They come in a limited selection of colours and shades and can bear load of up to 375 lbs, depending on the type of model. Extension ladders are basically available in foldable, telescopic and standing models. As extension ladders are mostly used for paint and repair jobs, some of them come along with accessories like bucket hangers, paint can hooks, roof hooks and tool holders etc.
