Loft ladders are made from different materials.
Here are some of the materials and designs used;
Aluminium loft ladders – Aluminium loft ladders are lighter in weight than other types of ladders and they have a greater level of strength to face the day-to-day wear and tear. There is no need to cover aluminium ladders, as they are not affected by weather or sunlight.
Fibreglass loft ladders – Fibreglass loft ladders can be used for electrical applications because they do not conduct electricity, unless of course they get wet. Fibreglass loft ladders are heavier than aluminium ladders and they are prone to cracks under heavy loads in comparison to aluminium ladders.
Timber ladders – Timber loft ladders are made from softwood or hardwood. These ladders are very strong and they do not conduct electricity. Unlike aluminium and fibreglass ladders, timber ladders need a varnish finish which helps to preserve the life of the ladder.
Most loft ladders need clearance in the loft so they can fit in when you close the hatch. Thus, you need to make sure your loft opening is the right size for the size specified for each ladder.
