How the scaffolding industry is recovering post-lockdown

An article in popular scaffolding magazine Scaffmag has reported that a leading business in Redditch, has received a large boost in funding to help its recovery since lockdown. Through the support of the new government scheme, Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CBILS) Portway Scaffolding has received £100,000 from BCRS Business Loans. It is hoped that this will help to boost their cash flow, reduce job losses for 32 employees, and generally get their business back on track. Like many others Portway had nearly all its contracts put on hold and the lack of work has put a huge strain on them. Even though this is just one example of a business that is starting to recover, there are many others around the country that are still struggling or only just looking at getting back on their feet.

The managing director of Portway Don McGrath had this to say about their optimism for the business. “We have been communicating regularly with our customers and suppliers and envisage that demand for scaffolding will be similar to pre-lockdown levels, as we continue to fulfil pre-existing contracts and work on new construction sites resumes”. This quote can provide hope to other scaffolding businesses around the country who are looking forward after lockdown. As things do begin to pick up again it is important to remember the measures that are still in place to protect from coronavirus and not to jump back to ‘business as usual’ too quickly. The guidelines are in place to ensure the safety of your staff and customers and so ultimately your business can operate during these uncertain times.

“We expect business operations to start returning to normal soon, as lockdown measures are eased further and more construction sites re-open”.

“In the meantime, we are busy reviewing our processes and putting additional measures into place to ensure it is safe for our staff to return to work”.
